John Michael Federico, HR Manager at Amway Philippines, has always been passionate about helping single parents. He himself was raised by a single mother, who had to work abroad to provide for the needs of her family. The 3-year-old John Michael grew up under the care of his 3 sisters. Knowing the struggles of being a solo parent motivates him to give back to these hardworking women whenever he gets a chance.
His drive to help single parents led to a partnership between the HR Department and Amway's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Team. Together, they came up with the idea of holding a mompreneurship event in Norzagaray, Bulacan, which was called Cut the Edges: Basic Haircut Workshop.
It was held on May 2022 just in time for Mother's Day. What better way to honor mothers than to help single moms gain new skills that can help them put food on the table? This activity was developed for working moms, whose livelihoods were impacted by the ongoing health and economic crisis. A total of 60 solo parents benefitted from this initiative.
Aside from helping conceptualize the event, John Michael was also present at the Basic Haircut Workshop. He got to assist a mother with giving her daughter a haircut during the hands-on exercise part of the workshop. Both he and the mom felt a sense of pride when they were able to successfully give her kid a lovely trim!
John Michael enjoyed being of help to the community at this training event. Now, he's always on the lookout for more volunteering opportunities with the CSR team!
